Examples Of Empathy
Empathy Is all around us!In a recent article, places around the world are bringing different options in their community. A church in Toronto during Christmas time has a Christmas Gala. Instead of wrapping the gifts, they decided to leave them unwrapped so the people could choose what they would like. One of the members of the church recalls an old memory of an older homeless man who asked for a red hat because "he had always wanted one" instead of just giving him a red hat, the Church found another one so he had an option of what hat he wanted/liked more.

Another program is the Furniture Bank in Toronto. They get donations of used furniture, appliances, and also other items you would find in a house. People can come on in and choose what items they like the most and want in their houses. But, other places just ask for gift cards so the people in need can buy new things that they really like with the gift card they are given.
Empathy is also affecting the troubled youth of today. A boy named Lucas was 17 years old when he was drinking, doing drugs, or even things like hotwiring cars for fun. Police caught him and his friend in a stolen car, but was only in jail for a year after submitting a plea bargain. While he was in California's Challenger Memorial Youth Center, a service learning program taught him and other people in this center about global issues, social justice, and also community activism. About a few weeks ago Lucas was out of prison and has already decided to volunteer as a mentor at other risk-youth programs, a seniors' home nearby and is going to college to study psychology.
